Tonight my Grandfather Joseph Floyd Simon known as Bunny Simon to most, will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in San Francisco by the NAACP. As a business owner, entrepreneur and Outlier of the San Francisco Community I am so grateful to see his work being acknowledged, in a city that has seen so much change. The San Francisco of today was not the San Francisco I grew up in, when I had family all over town, and made my way by bus from Oakland to Haight Street to just catch a buzz from the activity and happenings of Poppas club. He provided a birth place for Ntozake Shanghes renowned work, For Colored Girls. He booked Redd Foxx, Etta James and Nat King Cole. He was the fabric of the community, a living legend.
