Tonight, spent buying and returning things to WAL-MART. Wow, how the American have-nots live these days! It occurred to me that the gap between the haves and have nots in America is about much more than merely money; the entire cultural and technical references each have are now worlds apart. Those employees at WAL-MART are truly floating along in their own little hermetic worlds... which has very little to do with mine... again, not monetarily, but altogether culturally, linguistically. Remember, circa 2000, when they said that the techno-laggard would be dangerously left behind? Well, it has already happened, and its kind of shocking. The tech revolution has not been dispersed democratically. The employees at WM tonight had no idea what a USB cable was. I could use the modern descriptor Idiocracy, but maybe thats a bit meanspirited, but tonight, it was as though the very languages we spoke were at odds...
