Tonights Bible study was really good. God layed on my heart to study lifting up of hands. Pastor Justin has been discussing the journey of the Israelites in context of todays walk for believers while teaching on what God was doing during the Exodus. During Sundays sermon God impressed it upon me. So I did the study and God layed out six things for me to talk about. First He led me to Exodus 9:29 and showed me how lifting our hands in declaration in front of non believers means we are acknowledging Him and giving a witness for His glory just as Moses told Pharoah he would do. Then I was led to 1st Kings 8:54 and we talked about how God wanted people to lift their hands to not only in acknowledging Him but also in dedicating things places and people to Him and His care just as Solomon had done for the Temple and Gods people Israel. Next we looked at how we are to lift our hands as an offering or sacrafice to God as Psalm 141:2 teaches. After that God took us to Psalm 88:9 and used it to show how we move from acknowledging Gods sovereignty to dedication, from dedication to offering, and then offering to petitioning God while lifting our hands asking for His hands to be with us and upon our requests. 1st Timothy 2:8 showed us how God then wants us to also move into a place of worship lifting our hands in prayer and thanksgiving laying everything aside including our sin and our shame. The final and 6th image God has for us in lifting up our hands is found in none other than Exodus 17 which is where we as a church have been recently. God uses this passage to teach us that we are to lift our hands and allow our surrender to become the Lords victory. As Moses ackowledged God, he dedicated Joshua and the army to God and His purposes. Moses sacrificed as it hurt to keep his hands lifted... Moses most assuredly was asking for Gods mercy to be poured out on His people against the Amalekites. He probably also moved into a place of worship as he witnessed Joshuas sword become victorious as his own hands were raised to God. Moses also had burden bearers with him who helped carry that load in Hur and Aaron. Which shows a unity in seeking God for His hand to be our strength our weakness to be His victory. Everytime Moses dropped his hands cause his strength failed the Amalekites would gain ground, but as Moses allowed a couple armor bearers to hold his burdens with him God was in the unity and was exalted. He was victorious over the Amalekites and Joshua subdued them with the sword. So these six images are a type of communion with the Father. And as I was teaching this study God showed me how each of these images is found in the Lords prayer. Take a look and see the acknowledging God, the dedicating everything including the world to Him, the offering of yourself, the petitioning of God to move, the worshiping Him for who He is, and finally how He is the one who fights our battles as we lift our hands to Him in these six ways... Hope this is a blessing to someone.... It sure blessed me. And after the study 5 of us lifted our hands literally to heaven and God moved. He declared victory for our newest member. He sent a rhema word to this man and prophesied straight to his heart. We also dedicated many things and along with the other five images we had a great time of prayer and lifting our hands to God. Wont you lift yours to Him in these ways today??? Trust me this is an awesome way to pray.
