Too bad. The beginning of the end for college football. It would seem to me that the current NCAA rules are effectively defunct because they will be negotiating pay and other stipends for the players - tuition, payments, medical coverages, endorsement deals, profit sharing schemes, etc. So now its every player for himself. Now the High School football associations will have to set rules to keep college recruiters from coming after the high school kids waving dollars . It will take time, but good ol college football will end one of two ways: 1) It becomes a semi-pro football league that uses colleges as a backdrop. Teams will no longer have fellows that want to be a part of a team and play for fun - team rosters will have to be pared down to the bare minimum because Im sure every player will have to be a dues paying union member - and those costs will be enormous 20 years down the road as every player and their lawyers try to claim their bad knee is result of playing football. 2) After a couple years of negotiations, strikes, missed seasons or partial seasons, angry alumni, the schools will simply start dropping football. The union will press for more every single negotiation and chip away at the massive amounts of money generated by college football at many schools, which pays for all the other sports. Too bad for the soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, wrestling, track and field, and so many more. Not only will football stop - but without the football income all of those other sports will disappear as well. If the schools or athletic departments are wise they will need to save a lot of the cash now in order to cover the almost certain onslaught of legal fees and court cases that will arise from this. Its a shame. So now the Student athletes who are being cheated today - they wont even go to college tomorrow. Some schools will figure out how to have and manage a football team. Many wont . The number of college teams will be reduced - thereby the number of opportunities will be reduced. And since a free college education and all the perks and travel that goes with being on the football team isnt enough - so what are the options? Fewer teams, fewer players on each team, and the rest can now pay for their own education. Pathetic. Once more - America destroys itself from within.
