Took a day trip to Schuyler today to see the REAL Walton house. Years ago I actually met the real John Boy there as hed come from California to do a book signing. Funny, there was hardly anyone there. I learned later when posted in their newsletter that the actors from the tv show visited the place was packed. The public would rather see the actual actors, rather than the man who lived and wrote those wonderful stories! Not me!! I went to meet him! His name is actually Earl Hamner Jr. and he was exactly as I imagined he would be- soft-spoken, kind, gracious, and attentive. Met some of his family as well, including two of his sisters who had been portrayed on the show. (One of them was on my mothers bowling league!) Last time I was there Jim (one of the younger brothers) still lived in the family home. He no longer does. I took some pictures of the home, as well as John Boys elementary school which is now a museum. It was a nice autumn drive and a great trip down memory lane.
