Top 40 Australian Songs . . . Well, the Herald Sun released it’s top 40 Australian songs today and as per usual, I’m not happy with em. Realistically, I can’t pick 40 in any particular order, I’ve tried, so I’m never going to be happy with what any one else does but should just suck it up. However I would say this. Eagle Rock isn’t in the top ten? Mr, please. No Billy Thorpe in the top ten either? No Paul Kelly in the top ten? Also, no Icehouse at all, no Easybeats and we’re now refusing to recognize the song writing ability of Garth Porter and Clive Shakespeare? C’mon. That’s just insulting. AC/DC would be the obvious choice for number 1. Don’t ask why, they just would. More international success. The song means something. We have AC/DC lane. The poll was voted by Triple M (local rock station) listeners. The top ten should have still had Crowded House, I woulda picked Better Be Home Soon, as well as Leaps and Bounds(Paul Kelly), Most People I Know (Billy Thorpe), Throw Your Arms Around Me (Hunters And Collectors), Great Southern Land (Icehouse), Friday On My Mind (The Easybeats), Eagle Rock, Howzat (Sherbet), Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again(The Angels) and maybeh something like Into My Arms (Nick Cave). Don’t agree with me? That’s fine, in five minutes, I won’t either but at least I gave it a red hot go and I promise you it’s better than the bullshit The Sun came up with. Anyway, I have work to do.
