Topic: COAT OF MANY COLORS 6th June And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stripped Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him. (Genesis 37:23) The brothers of Joseph did not like the fashionable dress their father bought for him. They hated Joseph and detested his coat of many colours. On this particular day, they had the opportunity to treat Joseph anyhow since he was alone and their father was not around to protect him. What did they do first to show their hatred? They removed his coat. That must have been their greatest object of extreme dislike. It seems the dress was more important to the brothers than to Joseph himself. How? Well, what kind of dresses do people wear to the farm? You definitely will not wear your best attire to the farm to see your brothers if you were Joseph. Will you? That was the mistake that the brothers of Joseph made. The coat Joseph was wearing outside was no big deal. He would remove that one every night and he would still be the same sweet Joseph. It is the inner coat of many colours that Joseph wore that really mattered to him. The brothers could not remove that from him. He took it with him to Egypt. The coat was on him in Potiphar’s house. He was wearing it the day Potiphar’s wife came to tempt him. He said no to her evil intentions because the coat was on him. He took the inner coat of many colours to prison where he was sent. He wore it everywhere and all the time. He was still wearing it when his brothers came back several years later. He did not outgrow the coat till he died. You too need your own coat of many colours. You must wear it today and for the rest of your lives. Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. (Colossians 3:12, 14) Challenge: When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost!
