Topic: Slavery Discuss: Comment One: But funny how freeing the slaves really didnt accomplish much. So they were granted freedom. Well they didnt really get it. Yeah, they couldnt be bought, sold, beat legally anymore, but they really werent treated as poorly as made out by media. You wouldnt beat the crap out of a horse you owned, why do it to a person? But once given freedom they had no skills outside of the plantation, they could hardly read or right, so they ended up in the SAME place, doing the SAME thing, getting paid, but treated worse. They got the right to vote? Most didnt. Worked the railroads, yes, treated like crap like the Irish and Chinese. Not saying freedom isnt worth it, but the Liberals paint a picture of rainbows and unicorns in the Reconstruction Years for the newly freed slaves. The slaves were considered property. If you beat the crap out of a slave you lost productivity. Not saying slavery was acceptable, but overall they werent treated as poorly as people think. Blacks were considered to be like Children. They had the same learning skills etc etc, They were PRIMARILY taken care of.. JUST LIKE the horses you speak of. Small minority groups of owners would beat the slaves the way the media tells you. FACT. Comment Two: Regarding the above comment, butthurt Democrats (southerners) ensured that continued for another 100 years in the form of Jim Crow. You wouldnt beat the crap out of a horse you owned, why do it to a person? Blacks were not considered people, at least not fully people. The Bible thumpers of the time thought it was perfectly acceptable and used their religion to justify it, perhaps a bullcrap curse of ham or the beast of the field or some other bullcrap argument.
