Torn between DNA and Dublin. A 21 year- old Qamar has fallen in love with a boy of her age group, Gaabshe but her parents rejected to accept him on grounds that he belonged to a culturally outcast tribe called Midgaan. They attempted to force her to marry a relative through a traditional arrangement instead of this Midhaan boy but Qamar refused the proposal and proceeded with her plans to marry the man she loved. Due to intimidation, harrassment and unbearable emotional and psychological abuse the couple had fled to a neighbouring country, Kenya where they were registrerad as refugees in Dadaab Camp. Qamar has finally ended up in Sweden and soon as she got herself settled in a new country, she started processing requests to the Swedish Migration Board with attachments of their marriage certificate. She had a dream to reunite with her husband in Sweden but, much to her horror, her dream has been crashed. She was informed that they are not eligible to reunite in Sweden if they did mot have children between them to establish the authencity of her claims through DNA tests. The reason is that marriage certificates issued in Somalia as well as Somali passports are not recognized as valid documents since they have not been produced by a recognized government according to the migration board of Sweden. When she shared the news with Gaabshe her words exploded in his heart like a bomb. Gaabshe immediately hatched a plan: to cross the BORDER to Sudan, hit the dessert towards Libya and wade the Meditranean. He had done it all though with great effort and too much risk. He was fingerprinted in Italy but that did not stop him from continuing his journey to Sweden. In his first escape attempt, he was caught in Germany, imprisoned and returned to Italy according to the Dublin Agreement of seeking asylum at the first European country you have arrived. For three years now Gaabshe is changing places and prisons across Europe while Qamar is getting closer to the margins of insanity by the day. Their love seems to be torn between DNA and Dublin. What can we do about this? How can we help Qamar and Gaabshe?
