Thomas von Thury has also filed to run for city councilman. He is against the ramps. Here is his statement: Candidate Statement City of San Ramon, Councilmember Name: Thomas von Thury Age: Occupation: Lawyer Education and Qualifications: College and law school I am running for a seat on the City Council because I want San Ramon to remain a quiet, family oriented, residential community. My wife and I have enjoyed living here for over 15 years. Today, the quality of life that attracted us to settle in San Ramon is threatened by continuing over-development. Too many people living and working too close together is not good for anyone and is certainly not progress. If elected, I will oppose all further high-density developments, whether residential or commercial. I will oppose any warehouse store within San Ramon and I will oppose any new 680 interchange. I will also insist on reconsidering and scaling back the New City Center, implementing that project in phases. I have not been active in politics before, but am committed to protecting the environment and life style that attracted my wife and me to San Ramon. As for my background, I have over 30 years of business law and litigation experience in state and federal courts and am currently associated with a firm in Pleasanton. I have successfully represented individuals and businesses against large corporations and government entities. I am experienced at resisting the pressure to say “yes” when the correct response is “no.” Nonetheless, I have worked with state and federal agencies, including the IRS, to resolve disputes. The proper role of our city government is to serve and protect residents and their property, not to promote growth and commercial interests.
