Total Total Madness. Warning Lights I have been repairing - TopicsExpress

Total Total Madness. Warning Lights I have been repairing cars for over forty five years and it still never fails to amaze me the condition of some of the cars people drive. With modern technology things should be far easier to know when something is wrong with a car. I get cars in with dash warning lights on and get told thats been on for ages but it still goes ok . People need to realize not to ignore lights. The ABS warning light is a good example, when the light is on the chances are the brakes will not work fully in an emergency stop and in these wintry conditions will not stop the car skidding in the ice or rain. The other light that seems to be ignored is the air bag/seat belt lights. When it is on or flashing it means there is a problem and normally means that the airbag system is not armed. Not a good time to find out in an accident when they dont work. Most cars now have bulb failure warning lights. It is amazing how many cars fail the MOT for faulty headlights, not working or out of adjustment. No stoplights or white indicators are not far behind. I have had customers tell me that they put oil in the engine when the red light comes on, it is not an oil level light but an oil pressure light and you run the risk of the engine seizing up while it is on. If any WARNING LIGHT comes on do no ignore it no matter what colour it is, it still means something needs attention. If you are not sure or have any of these faults dont forget we run our Saturday morning car clinic for just this reason, all welcome. Check out our other posts for full details.
