Tougher day than I could anticipate, code red lock-down level 3, - TopicsExpress

Tougher day than I could anticipate, code red lock-down level 3, quiet and still. I have 4 windows with no coverings so we went to our quiet, safe place where I told stories, read stories, and my wonderful Miss Dina read a story while we breathed. We practiced breathing in through our noses and out through our mouths; smelling the soup and cooling it off; smelling the flowers and blowing out the candles. My 24 kindergarteners were amazingly patient with the whole process, and I know it wasnt easy on them. It was a necessary step of faith to take them outside after the all clear, and we all did very well. When a few children kept expressing a need to know what was happening, I explained that Mr. Murgia and all of us teachers were doing everything possible to keep them safe. I told them Jennifers story of the gorilla getting out of the zoo, and how we needed to give the zookeeper time to safely get the gorilla back to the zoo. I reminded them that this was like the nap time story I recently told them about my own kindergarten back in 1969, when I tried my best to be still and quiet during nap time, but I was never quite the best at it.
