Tourism industry has potential to provide more jobs The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Wednesday awarded certificates to 234 educated unemployed youth from Ganderbal, who had undergone six-week training under ‘Hunar se Rozgar Tak’. Chief Executive Officer, Manasbal Development Authority, Nazir Ahmad was chief guest on occasion while Principal IHM Aftab Ahmad Banday presided over the function. Dr. Farooq Ahmad Kaloo and Faiz Baskshi, president KHAROF were guests of honour. The training course was organized by IHM Srinagar under the centrally sponsored Huner-se-RozgarTak, a Union Ministry of Tourism scheme. The students alsoreceived stipend. Candidates who have completed the course would be provided with job opportunities across the country. Appreciating youth for their efforts to get their skills polished through various courses, Dr Kaloo during his address said: “Unemployment is an issue but tourism sector in Valley has potential to provide more jobs than the government can.” “Youth,” he said, “have to take initiatives to become self sufficient in earning by adopting the skills.” “Our youth are talented and the only need is to polish their skills,” Dr Kaloo said. “We don’t have private sector here where youth can be absorbed. But we have a growing tourism sector where many youth are getting jobs. The tourism is also helping state’s economy togrow and you will be part of that growth,” hesaid. CEO Mansbal Development Authority said:“Youth are our future and they have to take responsibility of tourism sector in both ways including its growth and preservation of natural resources.” Speaking on the occasion, Principal IHM urged the students to use the certificates for marketing their skills they learnt during the training program. “We will make conscious effort to facilitate employment of the pass-outs. Possibilities willalso be explored for their employment at Mega Tourist Destinations. Efforts will also be made to organize campus recruitments by thestakeholders in the Trade.” Terming the tourism sector second in offering jobs, President Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Owners Federation (KHROF), Faiz Bakshi said: “Tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir will be able to generate more jobs for unemployment youth in 2016 while it will generate jobs three times more than the government in 2020.” He said that tourism is the fastest growing industry in the world which was not even hit by the recessions. He felicitated the trainees for completing the courses and assured them in jobs in local hotels and outside state. He, on the occasion, announced that KHROF would sponsor three deserving candidates interesting in perusing higher education in Hotel and Management. “We are organizing such training programmes across the State including at Lehand Kargil.
