Town Board Meeting Courtroom Nears Completion, East Tank Project & More Story by John Thomas Staff Writer Town Center Remodel Town Supervisor John Burrell started the Town Board meeting off with good news. He said the courtroom in the Town Center is “very, very close to being finished.” He said there are just a few items left to do; install as strip of carpeting around the bottom of the walls, and move the judge’s bench over to the building. He reported that about $23,300 has been spent so far with about $5,000 in bills coming in. There should be enough money left over to paint the bathrooms. There was a general consensus among the board members that if the conversion job had been put out to bid, it would have cost a great deal more. Burrell reported that the conference room has been removed, and they have found ceiling tiles that match the tile in the rest of the auditorium. Workers still have to install some drywall and a grid to hang the ceiling tiles, but once that is done the whole room will have a matching ceiling. The Supervisor said the cost for the job will be very close to the $6,500 estimate. He also said the Rotary may have a proposal for some uses for the building. Burrell also reported that the contract with the Teamsters is up at the end of December. He said they want to amend the current collective bargaining agreement. The department reports were accepted as filed. Highway Department Dave Golly reported that the lifts have been installed in the new highway building. He said the lifts make it much easier to work on the vehicles. He said he has received several bids for gravel. The board instructed him to accept the lowest bid. He said a company has come out to demonstrate and ice bar to deal with ice build up on the roof in winter. East Tank Project The East Tank Project is still making waves. Town Engineer Mark Alianellio presented a plan for a different location for the tank. It is a bit to the east and lower on the hillside than the old location. There are two types of tanks he is considering. One is made of concrete, and the other is made of steel and fiberglass. Both are round and about 20 feet high and will be easier to conceal on the hillside. Either tank will cost about $50,000 more than the old plan. Alianellio showed on the print out where the new road would be cut and where the pipes would go to tie into the town’s water supply. He said the new road would not interfere with any future development on the lower part of the hill. Supervisor Burrell expressed the desire to make a decision as to which tank to use at the meeting. But he decided to discuss the matter at the Four Flushers meeting on Friday. Alianellio pointed out there is still quite of bit of work he can do on the tank project without knowing which type of tank will be used. The board made a motion for the engineer to proceed with plans for the tank in the new location provided the owner of the land gives consent. Property Tax Assessment Dennis Fisher a liaison officer with ORPTS, otherwise known as the Office of Real Property Tax Services for the state, was on hand to answer some questions the board had. Basically he said the town is in line to collect 100% of its assessed property taxes. At this point the board went into executive session to weigh some personal matters. Bank of America It has been realized by the bike trail committee that the town needs to be in the lead position in applying for grants to construct the trail. How this might affect the project going forward was discussed, and the board agreed to consult the town attorney. Supervisor Burrell reported that Building Inspector, Tom Abriatis, has been in contact with Bank of America regarding the abandoned house on Donlen Drive. It has been empty for several years and was becoming an eyesore. Tom had been told by B of A that the person responsible for the home is in California. Mr. Abriatis had contacted the man who said the house would be cleaned up, and a few days later it was. The bank told Abriatis that the lawn would be mowed every two weeks. The meeting was adjourned.
