Townsend teen to give bassoon recital at library Kaitlin Baker, of Townsend, will present a bassoon recital on June 9, at 3 p.m. at the Lawrence Library, 15 Main St., Pepperell. Admission is free. She will be joined by John Clark on piano and Joy Flemming on bassoon, in a program of classical and contemporary works. The war-horse of bassoon solos, the melodious “Concerto for Bassoon” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, will be the featured work, with the “Sonata” by Paul Hindemith, the “Romance” by Edward Elgar, and the delightful and playful “Duettino for Two Bassoons” by Eugène Bozza, played together with Flemming, her teacher. At 14, Baker has played bassoon for five years, and has a command of the challenging instrument. “Kaitlin has been going through advanced bassoon literature like a house on fire,” Flemming said. “I keep putting sheet music in front of her, and she keeps up with all the complexities — and always makes beautiful music.” If you love bassoon music or want to learn more about this instrument, if you love hearing young talented instrumentalists, please join us on this delightful afternoon for a concert that is suitable for all ages.
