Trade at the center of Vietnam-US ties: President Sang During talks with US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and Trade Representative Michael Froman on July 24, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang said trade is at the center of the bilateral ties. Two-way trade has continuously increased in recent years, with the trade value amounted to over US$11 billion in January-May 2013, up 16% year on year. The President asked the US to continue to open the market for Vietnamese goods, recognize Vietnam as a market economy, and not impose trade barriers on imports from Vietnam. The president is on a state visit to the US from July 24 to 26 at the invitation of US President Barack Obama.
