Trail Update – Blue Ridge Gravity workday. It’s been a while - TopicsExpress

Trail Update – Blue Ridge Gravity workday. It’s been a while since we have posted a true update on the trail we are building on the old section of the Gauntlet. We have had 10 legitimate workdays 6 of which we had the use of Roanoke City’s Ditch Witch. We have logged in a total of 336 volunteer hours since we have had approval to work on the project. We are very excited on the progression of the trail so far and hope the project will be roughed in before the summer riding season begins. The idea with the project is to diversify the trail system at the Cove offering a very different riding experience right here in Roanoke Virginia that riders would be willing to drive to as a destination trail. So far we are on track to offer a bit of “Park” through the woods connecting the jumps on the lower section to Brushy Mountain Fire Road. To date there are over 12 features (rollers, tables and berms) that have been built all of which are designed with proper drainage as to make the trail very sustainable. We have had many inches of rain since the project began and drainage has not been an issue. HOW CAN YOU HELP! 1. Workday: Saturday Feb 1st. 9AM (Meeting in the Bennett Springs parking lot for a ride to the top / others can meet us at the trail-head. Hi-Dee-Ho is your quickest way if your meeting us later) There is quite a bit of work to be done on the trail that we have cut, most of the features will need hand working of the features and much re-naturalization to shrink the trail back down to size. We have not posted many of the workdays but feel that it is time to “buff out” what is already in the ground and work on re-naturalizing the disturbed ground. I do want to get a head count so we can plan accordingly, you can do so by replying to this post on Facebook. 2. Monetary/other donations: We have to purchase diesel for the Ditch Witch, replace broken tools and provide food for volunteers. This is on the back of just a few of us volunteers and is beginning to put a strain on our wallets. Any and all help is appreciated! Please PM me if you or your organization can help.
