Trainer Cliff Turner’s next exercise in the Captain America phase of Superhero Fit is going to make you work hard for that shield. Cap is nothing without his explosive power, and this plyometrics 180-degree jump with a barbell plate thruster press will make you outlast all foes. Be VERY CAREFUL with this exercise. Cliff is using a 45-pound shield, but you should feel just as proud in wielding a 10-pounder. Know your limits and remember these steps: squat, press, extend arms, jump, rotate, and squat again in one fluid motion. As you descend, bring down the shield in a small arc—never straight down. 4 sets of 6-8 reps or time intervals will be plenty of work.
