Training canter departures and whoa means whoa. Also horse must learn to stay round and supple and if not they lose balance and string out (lose headset and hindquarters) sometimes letting a green horse hit the bit teaches them to stay soft and listen for your body Ques. Trainer didnt jerk or snatch at horses mouth! Asked horse to whoa sat deep and kept hands stationary to ask horse to drop rear end and stop off the for hand and keep collected not just a low headset. Let the horse think and be their own teacher inside of riding with heavy hands and jerking. Takes time and 9/10 it will not be a pretty stop or take off but once the horse learns what your asking and developed the muscle in the neck his quarters and back they will stop soft without pulling or falling forward. No punishing but they learn to carry themselves lightly and listen to their riders ques. The trainer /rider also must be careful to not let the horse anticipate or rush the transitions or get fussy. Reward repeat reward repeat reward finish!!
