Transforming Society: The Right Time “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” Psalm 37:7. Nehemiah 2:1-3 It took 4 months 4 Nehemiah 2 begin 2 see an answer 2 his prayer abt d desperate condition of Jerusalem. God doesn’t work on our timetable. So he learned 2 wait, just as we must learn 2 wait. Nw u wld tink dat any1 who dealt wit politicians every day…Nehemiah being a top-level adviser 2 d king wld b used 2 bureaucratic delays & government red tape. Bt waiting on God 2 move is a whole lot different dan waiting on some1 push papers. We saw yesterday dat d transformation of society is a spiritual issue, wic means noting will really happen until God shows up. God is worth d wait bcos wen He shows up, He shakes things up. Being sad in d king’s presence cld have cost Nehemiah his life, bcos it was against Persian law. His job was 2 cheer d king up, period. Bt God gave him favor wit d king & just d right word 2 say. Notice in v 3 he didn’t mention Jerusalem by name, even though Jerusalem was d place dat needed rebuilding. He just talked abt d home of his ancestors. Back in Ezra 4:21, Artaxerxes had ordered a halt 2 d rebuilding of Jerusalem. He had allowed it, but he feared dat if Jerusalem was rebuilt, it wld pose a threat 2 d stability of d Persian Empire bcos of tax. So Artaxerxes stopped it, wic was accomplished by d use of force. Nehemiah knew his history, & he understood d politics involved. So he just talked abt d plight of his people. Bt Artaxerxes was no dummy. He knew wat city his cupbearer was talking abt. Bt God knew d right time 4 Nehemiah 2 bring up d subject. 4 months earlier & d king might have had him killed. Are u waiting 4 d next election 2 change tings? Waiting on God will b a whole lot more fruitful. Let God do tings in His timing & His plan will unveil itself. In d meantime, rest & wait…& keep praying. Blessed Friday & ur month of All Things are ready.
