Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day when we remember the trans people that we lost in the last year to being murdered or suicide. In the words of Slo Mo friend and guest DJ Erik Roldan: We MUST break down the cages that make people think women or men must look or behave a certain way, or even that a person has to be either a man or a woman. We have to challenge people when they use a slur or question someones declared gender identity or new name. We should proactively push for gender neutral bathrooms in our work, and at the places we patron...Cisgender people and other allies NEED to actively educate themselves about trans issues and language, and NOT get defensive when called out for doing or saying something that is transphobic. And may I add, we also need to CELEBRATE the lives, and past lives of transgender people. Honoring and uplifting them, recognizing progress and victories along with the tragedies, and continuing to push forward. With that, this Janet number just feels right.
