Travel could be extremely hazardous tonight through tomorrow, and motorists are urged not to travel if they dont have to. If travel is necessary, please follow these winter travel tips: > - Reduce speed. Speed limits are based on normal road and weather conditions, not winter driving conditions. Dont use cruise control. > - Maintain at least three times the normal following distance on snow and ice. > - Watch carefully for TxDOT crews and equipment treating roadways. Stay at least 200 feet back from operating snow plows. Dont Take a Chance, Dont Crowd the Plow! > - Use extra caution on bridges, ramps and overpasses, as they tend to ice-over first. > - Carry extra warm clothes in case you get stranded. Dont leave your vehicle. > - If you start to slide, ease off of the gas and brakes and steer into the direction of the skid until you feel youve regained traction, then straighten your vehicle. TxDOT crews are out patrolling and are ready to respond when needed. Motorists are encouraged to gather as much travel information as they can by logging on to drivetexas.org, or calling 1-800-452-9292. Check out this video from the Winter Driving School in Colorado.
