Albania Country Risk Level - High C 18 Jun - 19 Jun U.S. SECURITY MESSAGE - American citizens visiting the Gjirokaster region of southern Albania should be aware of ongoing police operations against marijuana cultivators in the town of Lazarat. Police and suspected drug traffickers have exchanged gunfire in and near the town. The Embassy has no information to suggest the law enforcement operation will extend beyond the immediate area of Lazarat however, road travel delays are possible due to increased police checkpoints in the region. American citizens residing in or visiting the Gjirokaster region should monitor local media for the latest information. Algeria Country Risk Level - High C 18 Jun AUSTRALIA DFAT TRAVEL ADVICE: - Australians advised that the Canadian Embassy in Algeria can provide consular assistance to Australians. Reconsider your need to travel to Algeria and not travel to border areas with Mauritania, Mali, Niger and Libya. It is advised against all travel to border areas with Tunisia, south of the Algerian town of Souk Ahras. Bahamas Country Risk Level - Medium C 18 Jun CDN GOVT TRAVEL CAUTION: - Canadians advised that crime occurs in Nassau and Freeport. Tourists have been the targets of robberies, sometimes armed. Do not carry large sums of cash or wear expensive jewellery. Ensure that your personal belongings, passports and other travel documents are secure at all times. If you are threatened by robbers, stay calm and do not resist. Bosnia Herzegovina Country Risk Level - Medium C 18 Jun UK FCO TRAVEL ADVICE: - UK citizens advised that flooding and landslides in May have affected parts of the country, mostly in the north and east. Flood waters have subsided but some roads remain closed or passable with difficulty, and bridges have been damaged or washed away. Landslides continue to present a risk. Potential locations include the main roads of Avenida Paulista and Avenida Rebouças, although other areas may also be affected. Previous demonstrations by protest groups have resulted in violence. Libya Country Risk Level - Extreme C 18 Jun Brega- Protesters forced the closure of the eastern Marsa Brega Airport (HLMB/LMQ) over the appointment of a head of the Petroleum Facilities Guards, a security force in charge of protecting oil facilities and workers. The airport is part of the oil facilities complex and is used by the oil firms operating at the port city of Brega. It is recommended against all non-essential travel to these areas at this time. W 18 Jun US EMERGENCY MESSAGE: - US citizens advised of the increased risk of violence, demonstrations, and protests throughout Pakistan. Today (June 18), eight protesters died in Lahore during clashes with Pakistani authorities. Avoid the areas around Model Town and other places in Lahore where demonstrators tend to congregate, such as the Lahore Press Club and Mall Road. Monitor the situation via local media, stay clear of all known demonstration areas, keep a low profile, exercise caution, and avoid large gatherings. Spain Country Risk Level - Low W 19 Jun Madrid-- The coronation ceremony for Spains king, Felipe VI, is scheduled to take place on June 19. City authorities have banned four pro-republic demonstrations from taking place, including one that was set to be held in Puerta del Sol Square from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Despite the protest bans, rallies are likely to take place in the Puerta del Sol area, as there is vocal criticism of the countrys monarchy and support for a republican government system. Sri Lanka Country Risk Level - Medium C 18 Jun CDN GOVT TRAVEL CAUTION: - Canadians advised that communal tensions, including religious tensions, remain throughout the country, and have increased in 2014. Ethnically-motivated violence took place on June 15, 2014, in the coastal towns of Aluthgama (near Bentota) and Beruwala, in Southern Province. Local authorities have imposed a curfew. Further violent incidents cannot be ruled out. C 18 Jun UK FCO TRAVEL ADVICE: - UK citizens advised that there have been violent disturbances in the towns of Aluthgama (near Bentota) and Beruwala (about 60km south of Colombo) which have resulted in several reported deaths and injuries as well as damage to buildings and local businesses. The military has been deployed to the area. The curfew was lifted today (June 18), but the police have said it could be reinstated should the situation deteriorate. If you’re travelling to these towns or nearby areas you should take care and avoid demonstrations.
