Travis County polls open until 9 p.m. AUSTIN – A district judge has ruled that Travis County polls can stay open until 9 p.m. for the Primary Election after icy weather delayed their opening by two hours Tuesday. Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir made the decision to postpone the opening of polls on Monday night, and county election officials say the only problem they had Tuesday morning were reports of a few voters who showed up and were told to come back later. A district judge ruled around 2 p.m. that the polls can stay open until 9 p.m. However, votes which are made between 7 and 9 p.m. will only be provisional and won’t be counted until Wednesday. Voters are choosing who will take several posts in Texas, from U.S. Senate seats to Commissioner of Agriculture. The races getting the most attention are those for governor and lieutenant governor. In the contest for governor, Republicans are voting for State Attorney General Greg Abbott, Lisa Fritsch, Secede Kilgore and Miriam Martinez. Democrats looking for their party’s support are Senator Wendy Davis and Reynaldo Madrigal. The race for lieutenant governor is stacked on the Republican side of the ballot.
