Tree Planting / Transplanting by Neil ! Observing the 4 basics rules for success ! 1. Transplant During the dormant season – when leaves have fallen 2. Good site preparation – dig hole slightly larger than the entire root ball of the recipient tree, so that new roots can grow freely in to the new soil. 3. Fresh transplanting with undisturbed root ball -- Lift recipient tree carefully ensuring minimum disturbance to the root ball – replant ASAP 4. Fill in and firm soil carefully around root ball --- this ensures good root to soil contact in the planting hole - A good rain within 5 days is perfect as this washes soil in to any air pockets left around the roots.
