Tree of the Day: bristlecone pine (Pinus - TopicsExpress

Tree of the Day: bristlecone pine (Pinus aristata) The oldest bristlecone pines are over 5,000 years old. They are one of the longest lived species (in their habitat) in the world. Bristlecone pines grow in subalpine mountainous terrain in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada and other areas. The needles of this pine are stacked tightly together . They are also coated in a thick cutin wax. There is so much cutin wax that the needles have excess dots all over the needles. Its a key identification trick. They are very well behaved in the landscape. They are very slow growing. plant this below a power line. Very cool tree!
