What is a Realtor? Consumers not sure HOUSTON, Texas – July 15, 2013 – According to a Houston Association of Realtors (HAR) survey of more than 6,600 Texas buyers, sellers, homeowners and renters, 80 percent of respondents did not know or were uncertain of the difference between a Realtor and a real estate agent. Many survey respondents mistakenly assumed that agents work for Realtors, Realtors own the business, or that Realtors are more educated and experienced than agents. Of the survey respondents, 59 percent were working with a real estate professional – but less than one third knew if their agent was a Realtor, and only 12 percent of those asked whether they would prefer to work with a licensed agent or a Realtor chose a Realtor. However, according to HAR Chairman Danny Frank, “While consumers have a low awareness of the difference between an agent and a Realtor, survey respondents tell us that they are satisfied with their agent and consider them highly professional and competent.”
