Trek Day 7: GHUNSA TO KHAMBACHEN (4050m) We all had a pleasant stay at Ghunsa… rejuvenated with good food & hot bath… The temperature here was below Zero Degree… So we opted for a late start at 7 AM… After breakfast… we commenced our trek after registering our names at police post… walked through the village following the Ghunsa river… walking was easy and pleasant …through the wider valley of juniper and rhododendron trees… crossed few small rivers with short up and down hill… After 3 hours of walking from Ghunsa… arrived at the river bank of Ghunsa Khola… dazzling with fall colours… hopped endless boulders to cross the boulder zone… then crossed the wooden rickety bridge over the Ghunsa river… then climbed by following the river on right side… As we gradually ascent higher and higher… the forest of juniper and rhododendron were becoming thinner and thiner… Here we were having a feel of thinner air… On the way up…saw some Yaks were grazing in the meadow… After a 30 minutes walk up hill… we arrived at a river which flows through a beautiful waterfalls… As we leave the river and waterfall…we reached a small teashop… took a small break with maggi & coffee…then again started to climb up and for another 20 minutes… we nearly arrived at the treeline (approx. 4200m)… From here we enjoyed brilliant views of Mt. Jannu (7711m)… Mt. Jannu is also known as Mt. Kumbakarna… Our trail continues through a big landslide zone …for 20 minutes by following a zig zag trail… While walking through the landslide… all of us took extra care… as the pebble might fall-down… After crossing the landslide …. we considered ourselves somewhat safe … enjoyed overlooking the view of snow capped mountain including the Jannu peak… which was simply breathtaking… then continued our ascent for another 45 minutes… to the hill from where we observed the view of Jannu glacier… Then gradually walked down… crossed the Nupchu river… eventually arrived at Khambachen (4050m)… It nearly took us 8 hours walk from Ghunsa to Khambachen… From this place we enjoyed the magnificent view of snow capped peaks of Jannu (7711m)… Phole (6445m)… and Ghabur Peak (Temachunggi) - 6044m from left to right respectively…There are 12 - 15 house holds with some tea shops and camping spots… We spent overnight at Kanchenjunga Guesthouse… It has several double rooms and a big dormitory room… got an early dinner also with rice-dal-boiled potato at 5.30pm… enjoyed a beautiful sunset also.
