Tribune Kenya mall bombing: Lagos shoppers lament poor security in malls Written by Chukwuma Okparaocha - Lagos Saturday, 28 September 2013 00:00 A week after the terrorist attack on a mall in Kenya, Lagos residents have clamoured for better security at the malls in the state. Saturday Tribune, which visited a popular mall in Lagos, on Friday, spoke with a cross section of shoppers who observed that there’s little or no difference in the level of security the management of the mall had put in place. A shopper, who identified herself as Miss Olufunke Olajide, said she expected more stringent security measures to have been put in place at the mall by now. “What happened in Kenya should be an eye-opener to all mall operators around the world. I understand that as soon as the sad incident occurred in Kenya, many malls quickly beefed up their security. However, same cannot be said of the mall where there is hardly any difference in terms of security between what the situation was before the Kenya incident and what it is now,” she stated. Similarly, another shopper, who wished to be known simply as Prince, remarked that the only difference he had observed so far was the presence of sniffer dogs, which he said were not around before the terrorist attack in Kenya. However, another shopper, who preferred to remain anonymous, pointed out that there was little the management of big malls could do to fish out individuals who had ulterior motives. He said that since hundreds of people visit the mall daily, it would be impossible to effectively monitor everyone.
