Tribute to My Father - S. Nihal Singh Dhillon Born on April 13th, 1936 in village Tallewal, Punjab; my father celebrated his birthday along with Vaisakhi. Popularly known by his friends as NSD (Never Slow Down) eventually has ‘Now Slowed Down’ to rest in peace on October 17th at 2:15 pm, on the same day and time as his wife and my Mom Mrs. Gurnam Kaur passed away. Dad got his education from the village school. At age of 17, he went to explore opportunities in Hong Kong and Japan, where he worked and then started his business. As dynamic as he was, he ventured to set up business in Liberia, West Africa and founded the Dhillon Brothers Corporation. He also expanded business in India, including representing Markfed at his vacation house in Solan, H.P. Dad was very passionate and compassionate person. He will easily have tears in his eyes even during happy moments. He was very strong on his principles and family values. He went out of the way to support and share his wealth with his siblings and family contributing to the joint family property. He gave education to me and my siblings in the best schools of India. He was a religious and God-fearing person. He was very easygoing person who will never lose temper or panic. He was very social and funny person and will find fun in any activity or at any party. He was a peace loving person, and would even sacrifice his interest for the sake of peace and love and would never badmouth anyone. He was always a child at heart when playing with children, and children would love to play with him, and he was their favourite grand pa - Nihal. Even when he would attempt to scold children, he would not be able to withhold his smile. He has two sons and two daughters; and eight grand children. He was very fond of music and dance. Even during my election campaign, he would carry a radio transistor with him for fun. He was a member of the Song Authors Guild of America. His popular songs included ‘With Every Beat of My Heart’ … ‘Juju of Love’… sung by Ricky Lee and recorded by Fox Century Place Records. Other songs included Impeachment of Love’, ‘Talk my Pillow – Talk, Talk’, ‘Malaria in Liberia’ and ‘Hi vey Liberia, voo vey Liberia’. He used to be a favourite at parties. He spoke Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and English. He will be dearly missed by all but our family urges everyone to celebrate his vibrant life. Funeral Arrangements of Mr. Nihal Singh Dhillon On October 21st, 2013 (Monday) the funeral will be taking place at 10:30 AM at the Calgary Crematorium & Funeral Services located at 3219 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, T2M 3A6, Tel. 403-299-0111.
