Tributes from Brigitte Dzogbenuku ... I was fairly good friends with Komla. We had been better friends but we drifted apart over some differences. We would still comment on each others wall or posts but I felt he sometimes came across as patronizing me. I admired him a great deal especially for what he had achieved and how hard he worked and every so often, would commend him. I am sad though that I could not overlook all that had been said and just carried on with our friendship . Silly to say, but the thought that comes to me is if I knew hed die this young. I guess theres one thing his death has taught me - were not here forever and have no clue when we will be called; lets make the best of our friends and family. We are all not perfect. Lets overlook the flaws and the hurts caused by another (sometimes fueled by our own sense of self importance and ego); and lets like/love the person for what they are worth. Chimamanda Adichie has written a lovely tribute of Komla (featured on myjoyonline) and subtly mentions his endearing insecurity lurking beneath his flair-filled confidence. I couldnt agree with her more. We all have insecurities and must endeavour to understand ones actions and deal with them on that basis; not just dismiss them and throw the baby out with the bathwater. I am pained by his death...but it has taught me some new life lessons; indeed there are many lessons to be learnt from Komlas passing. May he rest in peace.
