Trinidad and Tobago Newsday Education is crime solution Tuesday, August 20 2013 THE EDITOR: We the citizenry of TT are presently all focused on the crime scourge in the country and of late the criminality in the Duncan/Nelson Street area. We ask what will be the solution to this plague. Is it the putting of a Police Post in the community or handing out of costly contracts to gang leaders hoping it will solve the problems? The answer was there in the fifties sixties and it is here today, I am speaking of four educational institutions — the Nelson Street Boys and Girls Primary Schools and the Eastern Primary School Boys and Girls. These schools did produce academics, who today are some of the past and present leaders in both the public and private sectors. Over the years these schools were systematical destroyed as institutions of learning both educationally and culturally — another is Rosary Boys School. The long term solution to crime is proper people representation and an education system that produce productive citizens. One ought to note that in the Port-of-Spain environs the non- functioning institutions, the churches, the health centres, the community centres even the destruction of our Queen’s Park Savannah. Our crime solution is education and proper representation. Athelston Clinton Arima
