True confessions: long term successful marriage is one of my all time favorites -- demonstrating for us where we get it right. For the same reasons, I am compelled to wage liberation from guns and shootings, rape culture, violence-oriented masculinity, militarization, extreme economic disparities, and disempowering birth experiences. It boils down to a spectrum -- the abject absence of kindness or the intentional promotion of kindness. This article explains the nuts and bolts of kindness, which can be applied to all kinds of relationships and social situations. If our cultural norms held the practice of a preferential option for kindness and generosity toward others, guns, rape, militarization, traumatizing birth, alienating gender roles, abuse, and disparities would essentially find no place, no acceptance.
