True suicide prevention--only for those willing to listen to another perspective.... Having lived in the trenches with a severe mental illness, I venture to write about suicide prevention from that perspective. What I am about to write may anger some but it also may save lives, as it has mine and others. I am undoubtedly alive because of what I was taught and that is this: if you commit suicide, you end up with a very severe karma and in a very dark place and end up having to re-embody back in the same situation you were in, but with the added very heavy karma of suicide. Before you dismiss this as far-fetched or negative, let me ask you this, does it truly serve the depressed person to believe that if he or she takes his or her life that she ends up in Heaven or just ceases to exist, so all pain is taken away? I submit to you that it does not serve anyone to believe thusly. In fact, it contributes to the epidemic of suicide. Research has shown that those who have a spiritual belief about suicide as a negative as much less likely to take their lives. This is a fact. As I said, I have been in the trenches and I have been around many, many suicidal folks. I have shared this that I was taught by Elizabeth Clare Prophet, who has saved my life. Those I share this seemingly depressing teaching, and take it to heart fight on because the truth is, you do not die when your body does. You are a soul and that goes on and it can indeed go to unspeakably dark places if you make dark choices. Suicide is a dark choice and even the best of souls have been tempted by it, including St. Francis of Assisi. He is a fantastic help to souls now in his eternal state. Just ask him for help. He will help, I promise you. Reach out to those who are here on Earth for help also. There are many who want to help, including on crisis lines and at emergency rooms and by calling 911, you will get help as well. A really fantastic book is Wanting to Live: Overcoming the Seduction of Suicide by Dr. Neroli Duffy and Marilyn Barrick which gives a perspective you will not find elsewhere, including the account of a woman who passed on from suicide and then came back and recounted the horrors of what she encountered. It is about as real as it gets. Read it and be enlightened and inoculated from the scourge of taking ones own life to solve ones problems. if you cannot afford the book, I will gladly send you one, as I give them out all the time. It is my way of paying it forward.
