Truest thing Ive ever read. This gave me a different perspective in order to make changes in my life and I will continue to repost it until it no longer applies to either myself or the ones around me. ENTITLEMENT OR EMPOWERMENT: Nobody owes you anything. Not respect. Not decency. Not kindness. Not obedience. Not courtesy. Not approval. Not trust. Not love. Not presence. These are not earned or owed. They are only given freely and by choice. What you DO owe yourself? Is your own empowerment... which does not demand or expect these things from anyone else, no matter how frustrating or disappointing it may be that you do not receive them. Our empowerment comes from consciously moving away from disrespectful, rude or meanspirited toxic scenarios and behaviors and towards mutually nourishing, joyful, healthy, soulful and loving ones. That deliberateness shifts us from victimhood and villainizing into a whole new level of self accountability. You really do teach people how to treat you by what you allow or put up with. So start treating yourself better. And then watch the world follow your example. Not because you expect, demand, deserve or need it. But because you showed them how.~Courtney A. Walsh
