Truly exciting out shelter is the most run down thing I have ever seen.. and its small and no bus goes by it .. I hope the new shelter is in the bus run i would go volunteer!! The cat is out of the bag!!! Land has been graciously donated to the SPCA on Route 19 in Belmont by Kevin and Claudia Gildner. The SPCA Serving Allegany County is now moving forward with plans to build a new animal shelter. The current building, which was donated by the late Kenneth M. Clark, was constructed as an animal shelter decades ago and is in a dilapidated state. Years of use have taken a toll on the structure and the SPCA Serving Allegany County hopes to build a modern new shelter to better serve the needs of the people of Allegany County and its homeless animals. The SPCA Serving Allegany County has started a Building Fund account at First Citizens National Bank and it has been growing over past few years. The SPCA has engaged the services of an architect firm with experience working on shelters and other non-profits and we are in phase one of the design process. The shelter building will be designed using the latest shelter design techniques, including sound mitigation, energy efficiency and sanitation. Improved systems will make the building more comfortable for volunteers, visitors, and our resident animals. In addition, the SPCA will be looking to incorporate green building strategies to minimize environmental impacts and increase efficiency.
