Truman Fallaw August 6, 1935 - July 9, 2014 Obituary for Mr. Truman Fallaw M. Truman Fallaw, 78, died July 9, 2014 at Palmetto Health Richland Heart Hospital. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Shandon Baptist Church, 5250 Forest Dr, Columbia, on Saturday, July 12th, at 3 pm with Dr. Dick Lincoln and Reverend Tim Head officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. Truman was born on August 6, 1935 in Lexington County to the late Thomas and Kate Winn Fallaw. He graduated from Greenwood High School, attended Lander College and the University of South Carolina. Truman served two years in the US Army, the second stationed in South Korea. Truman’s work history started in accounting and data processing with the SC Highway Department and Department of Mental Health. Later he moved into the financial services industry serving as a Trust Officer and Business Development Officer with C & S and NationsBank’s Trust Department for 20 years before retiring and spending 5 years with NBSC’s Trust Department. Truman was a people person and was active in many areas of his local community and at the state level. Truman served in Kiwanis International, as President of his local club and Lieutenant Governor of the Carolinas District. He was active with his sons’ schools through PTA and local baseball recreation leagues. He was also on the board of the Department of Youth Services and served as Chairman when a chapel was constructed on the campus. Near and dear to Truman’s heart was Connie Maxwell Children’s Home. He served on their board for over 30 years - as Chairman twice. Truman was a committed Christian and always very active in his local church. He served as Training Union and Sunday School Director, as Deacon and in various other ways. Truman was active in the SC Baptist Convention and served the National Baptist Convention on the Guidestone Board. After retirement and his first heart health scare, he found his place and a home as a volunteer with Palmetto Richland Hospital, on the local, state and regional level. Truman is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathryn Cantrell Fallaw; his sister, Harriet Collins (Harold) of Greenwood, SC; two sons, Matt (Joni) of Hickory, NC and T’Wayne (Karen) of Irmo, SC; and five grandchildren, Taylor, Aidan, and Cade of Irmo and Bates and Matthew of Hickory.
