Trustee David Brooks announced at last night’s board meeting that he intends to retire from the Board of Education as of March 11, 2014. The 60-day notice gives the Board time to review options to fill the vacancy. Mr. Brooks began his career as a Newport-Mesa trustee in April, 1998. During his announcement, he shared several highlights and accomplishments that have occurred during his tenure. Of significance he noted, implementation of strong curriculum resulting in high achieving schools and successful passage of two facility school bonds, Measure A and Measure F, which provides current and future state of the art instructional, theatrical and sports facilities in N-MUSD. Mr. Brooks shared his fondness for working with his school board colleagues and district staff over the years. He noted that he is extremely proud of the District and its role as a model within the state in so many areas. “It has been my sincere honor to serve as a trustee for the last 16 years.”
