Truth Without Sugar Matthew 13:53-58…It is interesting how people will believe one person but will discount another. If you don’t know either of them then they are the same in question, but if you grew up with one and he changed so dramatically then we have trust and belief issues. All of the stories that I have ever heard when it comes to someone who was a renegade as a child who grew up to become a pastor always seems to get the kind of treatment that Jesus received in His home town. The people/leaders/Pharisees let Him speak in the synagogue and this was no small acceptance here. The Pharisees would not let just anybody speak here, so they recognized Jesus for His wisdom and authority of word. I’m sure that Jesus could keep anyone engaged with conversation or speaking without a problem. The people even recognized that Jesus had great and miraculous healing power, but yet they still rejected Him in His home town, then the people tried to place Him as "just another guy," "one of us," "nothing special," that’s what they were doing when they were calling out his family out because His family was ordinary, accept for a “virgin birth” thing 30+ years ago, (that sort of sets a tone don’t ya think?) The sad point is that Jesus could do no miracles in His home town due to the disbelief of the people. They were unwilling to look at Jesus for who He was because they had grown up with Him. If you look at this account in Mark 6:1-6 and Luke 4:16-32 some say that these were different events and some say they are the same, we don’t know, but the point of disbelief is one of the key points in all of these passages, Luke even more so explains the cost of nonbelief (No healing) Disbelief always deprives people of blessing. “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him” Hebrews 11:6.
