Trying to convince a friend she doesnt have Typhoid but I guess the lab technician/ scientist has used his 5 minutes Widal test to convince her she does. PLEASE WIDAL TEST IS A NON SPECIFIC TEST meaning it can be positive for a whole lot of infections and infestations even malaria. For it to indeed be used to diagnose Typhoid there must be three fold rise in titre value for 3 diff blood samples. Yeah different studies have shown high (61%) true positive results when compared with Stool/blood Culture results but they still have false positives. Stop disturbing your gut flora (bacteria) with your weekly or two weekly Ciprofloxacin tablets or whatever they say you should take. Interesting to know that even blood film for malaria parasite can test negative even when you have malaria whilst the accompanying Widal test shall come out positive because of the malaria. Truth be told most of these labs and private clinics/hospitals use Widal test to make money.
