(Trying to react to this objectively) First, I think we have to consider that this advertisement was not meant for the Philippines, because if it was, then definitely it will have a negative effect on the company which happens to have a branch here in Cebu. I can only surmise that this was meant for Malaysian viewers, or perhaps in the US or Europe where most of the big companies, who might want to take of their service as call center company, are concentrated. Second, we also have to consider that what they are doing is a valid technique in advertising. The company is actually using one of the many types of propaganda techniques in advertisement. In big countries such as US, advertisements are sometimes below the belt to a point that it really mentions the competitor brands. A kind of advertisement that the Filipino culture is not accustomed to, which is why we might get offended by this kind of advertisement. Again, it boils down to perhaps the company must have just been trying to sell itself to a competitive market in big countries, giving them Malaysia as an alternative, because these big countries are bent to having their business establishments here in the Philippines. Of course, Aegis has to find a way to prosper as a company, and they could not perhaps do a great exponential growth here in the Philippines given the big competition amongst call center companies. Thus introducing Malaysia as a better place, and to some extent destroying the perception about Philippines. Third, truth hurts, lies worse. All of the things that were mentioned about the Philippines, if not true, are partly true. We may not have a very supportive government yet, or we may not have the strongest and formidable security forces yet, or we may have been hit by typhoons or may be in danger because we belong to the Pacific Ring of Fire, but must we remember that these are things, so superficial, that we can improve on. We can work towards a better and supportive government, or strengthened security, or better risk reduction management during calamities and other force majeure events. But you see, they failed to lambast about what is much more important to a company than these superficial things-- the workforce. Its the workforce that is the lifeblood of the company, its the workforce that would determine whether a company will be successful or not, its the workforce that would make a company thrive. The advertisement failed to criticize how the work ethics of Filipinos are unparalleled, how most Filipinos value their work, and work so hard not just because of salary, or other things but primarily and simply because they just love their work. This advertisement failed to mention that the Philippines is the 3rd largest English-speaking nation (BBC, 2012), and the worlds best country in business english (GlobalEnglish, 2012), and the country other than US and UK where 6 out of 10 5 year old children could already speak in english (Philippine Statistics Authority, 2005). Indeed, such a genuine pool of talents. So yes Aegis, you may say we are far behind Malaysia in so many reasons and in so many ways and I believe that, but forget-not that your company is thriving partly because of the Filipino workforce, that your company is where it is right now because of Filipinos, because you are here in the Philippines. The Philippines that doesnt have the supportive government, the Philippines that doesnt have good security forces, the Philippines that is always hit by calamities, the Philippines where you cannot do business with pleasure. I rest my case.
