Trying too hard to feel upbeat can make you miserable............ Self-help affirmations – the kind you’re supposed to repeat to yourself each morning in the mirror, to remind you how wonderful you are – can backfire badly. Instead, remind yourself that you don’t need to meet any particular standards in order to accept yourself. ‘Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better’ is one classic affirmation — but maybe you’re not, and that’s fine, too.
