Tue, Mar 11, 2014 03/12/20140 Comments On my radio show this week I had the chance to interview some amazingly inspurational people. First there was Nick Morrice who; after a career in teaching; found himself sponsoring a orphan in Kathmandu. He went out to visit and was introduced to more orphans and ended up giving £30 thousand to help a young person through medical school. Nick was being advised against this but followed his gut feeling. He now supports a number of orphans finacialy and even brought them a house to meet their needs as they grow up. Nick said he sees Kathmandu as a second home now, and is a father figure in these kids life. What a nice way to use an his mums inheritance money. He was worried the money would disapear into a black hole as hed only met the youngster once. Surely a good example here of how we should follow that gut feeling.. Nick has now published a book of his story and is using the profits to directly support these orphans. Nick now has this loving realtionship with the orphans; really something that money cant buy. Then I spoke to Ray Edwards MBE. Ray is founder and chairman of Limb Care; who support amputees limb impaired folk. Ray himself has had a tramatic life... In the 70s he was leaving school and following his fathers footsteps into the contstruction industry. Then he was told he had hodgekins; a type of cancer. Ray had to have his spleen removed but came through this .. only to contract septisima resulting in him losing his arms and legs. At the same time he began to suffer kidney failure. Thankfully this rectifed its self. This is a man who has been through so much; faced with life as a Quad Amputee, rebuilding his life; getting use to his artificial limbs. To add to the trauma Ray also suffered a heart attack. He has now dedicated himself to supporting other Amputees and limb impaired people. He does this through his charity and his motivational speaking. Ray is himself an inspiration, reciving his MBE in 2011 was a proud moment for Ray. He also attempted to climb mount kilamajaro but had to stop due to a chest infection. Ray is also going to be in the telly playing a corpse on ITVs Law and Order. He enjoyed the VIP star studded treatment he recived during filming. Please support Rays charity limbcare.org.uk These two people are a real testimony to human nature and kindness in a world where this is often severly lacking. I felt really humbled hearing their life stories.
