Tuesday nights Council highlights include: - (11:56 pm) , Having one Council meeting a month means long meetings. Thanks to all the Ranger Park Preschool Program concerned residents who lasted until the end to share and express their valuable points. Council on their agenda made public the intention to close the Ranger Park Preschool Program effective January 1, 2015. A motion of Council tonight will have a staff report publicly present information and details on the reasoning for the decision at a future meeting. -Council also released their decision to discharge the trail right-of-way on Alpine Village Estates property; directing staff to report on alternative suggestions of where to permanently relocate that section of trail. -The public opportunity to speak on the proposed rezoning of 1471 Columbia by the CDC from P-3 to P-2 was welcomed after the Mayor under section 131 of the Community Charter had Council rescind the 3 previous meeting motions rezoning the lands from P-3 to P-2 ; with conditions of a restrictive covenant, and definition of a CDC . 1 1/2 hours of debate took place with any future rezoning of the lands to follow another public process including advertising and a public hearing. -Council confirmed the colour scheme and placement of the sponsorship sign at the new area. -Area A, Regional Director, Stoney Stoltenberg attended the meeting to confirm his support of $250,000.00 of the RDBN Rural Area As Gas Tax Funds towards improvements to the soccer fields at Chandler Park. He also confirmed a senior grant application that will be ratified at the next regular Board meeting. Thanks Stoney for your continued support of Community facilities that are a region-wide benefit. -Council passed a motion to have staff prepare a bylaw allowing shipping containers in the C-3 zone. Councillor Bandstra had put Council on notice of this motion at the last meeting. - Councillor Bandstra and Northrup both confirmed they would not be seeking relocation this November. Nomination packages are now available at the Town Hall and nominations period is from September 30th to October 10th. A Prospective Candidates information session is schedule for September 17th at 7:pm at the Town Hall. Please encourage anyone you think would make a good community leader to consider running this fall.
