Tuesday`s Vanarama Conference Round-Up... Barnet`s lead at the top of the Vanarama Conference.... ....table was reduced to six points on Tuesday night after they suffered a last-gasp defeat at the Memorial Stadium to a Bristol Rovers side who are now fourth. In front of a terrific crowd of 6,012, Matty Taylor put the home side ahead inside 4 minutes after being fed by Andy Monkhouse. Recent Rovers recruit, Nathan Blissett, came close to doubling their lead but saw Barnet defender Sam Togwell head his overhead kick off the line. But the league leaders bounced back and equalised 8 minutes before the break with a Luisma Villa free-kick from 30-yards that took a deflection past Steve Mildenhall in the Rovers goal. Taylor fired just over the bar early in the second half before Barnets top scorer John Akinde came close to giving his side the lead. But in the 3rd minute of injury-time at the end of the game, debutant Angelo Balanta – on as a 67th minute substitute – headed the winner past Raphael Spiegel, who was also making his debut for the Bees after signing on loan earlier in the day from West Ham. Grimsby Town closed the gap on Barnet as they bounced back from defeat to Kidderminster Harriers by beating fellow high-flyers Woking at Blundell Park in another crucial Tuesday encounter. The Mariners took a 14th minute lead with a looping header from Craig Disley from Carl Magnays cross. The Cards suffered a blow when they lost goalkeeper Jake Cole to an early injury and then later in the first half, influential striker Scott Rendell also had to be substituted. Lenell John-Lewis headed in a Jon-Paul Pittman cross to put Grimsby further in front 9 minutes into the second half. Woking reduced the arrears on 67 minutes when Dean Morgan curled a fine effort past James McKeown. But a minute from the end of normal time, John-Lewis got on the end of Nathan Arnolds pass to score number three from close range and seal Grimsbys win. Macclesfield Town are now third in the table after a hard-fought win against Torquay United at the Moss Rose. The Silkmen had early chances as Paul Turnbull fired over the bar and Chris Holroyd shot wide, while Malachi Lavelle-Moore headed straight at Gulls` keeper Martin Rice. Holroyd also had a goal disallowed for offside, while at the other end Ryan Bowman saw his header blocked. But what proved to be the only goal of the game came 11 minutes into the second half when Danny Whitaker found room to fire past Rice from inside the area - his first goal of the season. Kidderminster Harriers` push towards the top five took a slight knock as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Aggborough by mid-table Wrexham. Aman Vermas superb 30-yard effort in the 2nd minute gave Harriers the perfect start. However, battling Wrexham pulled back on level terms in the 65th minute when Connor Jennings first-time shot beat Danny Lewis at his near post. Matt Robinson nearly restored Harriers lead but his shot bounced back off the post. Late on Wes York almost ended Wrexhams winless run - which is now nine games - but could not reach Nick Rushtons cross. Chester FC bounced back from being two-down to win 4-2 against struggling Dartford at Princes Park. Lee Noble volleyed Dartford into a 15th minute lead after good work from Ryan Hayes. Two minutes into the second half, Noble crossed for Elliot Bradbrook to head the Darts into a 2-0 lead. But 3 minutes later Craig Mahon fired Steve Burr`s side back into the game from around twelve yards. And then 4 minutes after that Mahon bagged his second to pull the visitors level after being set up by John Rooney. Matty Hughes` low effort past Seb Brown then made it 3-2 to Chester on the hour-mark. And 4 minutes from the end of normal time, Rhys Oates scored a fourth from close range after a cross from Craig Hobson. Dover Athletic made it five league games without defeat as Nuneaton Town suffered their heaviest defeat of the season at Crabble. And Boro were lucky to come away with a 5-0 defeat, such was the gulf in class between the two sides. Tom Murphy headed Dover`s opener from Stefan Paynes cross after 21 minutes. Connor Essam volleyed the second 3 minutes later. A slightly bizzare third came on 32 minutes when Payne tackled Nuneaton `keeper James Wren on the touchline and crossed for Nicky Deverdics to tap into an empty net. Just shy of the hour-mark Payne snapped up a rebound to make it 4-0 and he added his second from just inside the box to make it a nap hand 8 minutes from time. Welling United made it back-to-back victories for the first time this season after a 1-0 win at the Amlin Stadium against Braintree Town. Zach Fagan and Jake Gallagher went close for the visiting Wings, before home `keeper Nick Hamann denied Aristide Bassele. But Welling deservedly went ahead just past the hour-mark when Charlie Penny found back of the net with a neat finish. Sean Marks and Dan Sparkes had chances to draw the hosts` back on level terms, but Welling `keeper Ben Buchel was equal to both and the Wings hung on to move to within two points of their hosts and five clear of danger. Southport, who earned a vital win at fellow strugglers Nuneaton last Saturday, sunk back into trouble and twentieth place after suffering a 3-1 defeat at the Merseyrail Community Stadium against Aldershot Town. Defender Joe Oastler flicked on a corner for Andre McCollin to turn in the Shots opener after 17 minutes. And the visitors doubled their lead on 24 minutes when a foul by Luke George was punished fully by Sam Hatton, whose 25-yard free-kick flew past David Raya in the Port goal. Southport reduced the deficit right on half-time when Richard Brodie converted Charlie Joyces assist. However, Aldershot confirmed victory with 19 minutes remaining when Brett Williams fired number three past Raya.
