Outbreaks of rain will clear the NE mainland into Orkney & Shetland as brighter skies with squally showers follow on behind from the NW. Showers will be heavy with hail and a rumble of thunder at times and fall as sleet or wet snow over the hills. The brighter weather will reach Orkney later this morning and Shetland early in the afternoon. West to NW winds will increase from the west this morning with gales or severe gales along coasts and hills, later in the day the strongest of the winds will transfer towards Caithness, Orkney & Shetland. Temperatures on the cold side and feeling that way in the wind ans showers, highs of 6-9c at best. Tonight the wind and showers will ease for most of us although the far NE, Orkney & Shetland will remain windy with showers. Later in the night rain will reach the Western Isles & Skye. Temperatures overnight dipping to 3 or 4c inland but higher towards the NE in the wind and also rising later in the west. Tomorrow will be cloudy with rain spreading from the west, heaviest over western coasts and hills where it will be windy but less so than today. Milder eventually everywhere.
