Tula or Libra. Libra in Latin language and Tula in Sanskrit refer to a weighing balance. This symbol is of an object unlike other signs’ animal or human symbols. The reference to weighing or a person who weighs has two meanings. The first means balancing birth and death – in the symbolic representation of the ‘Kalapusha’ or the Cosmic Man this seventh sign Libra is exactly opposite to Aries, Aries is where the spirit manifests or is born and Libra is where the spirit dissipates or dies. Alternatively Aries is the Self sign and house and Libra is the Non Self sign and house of the Cosmic Man. The second meaning is where the incarnate spirit has reached a stage where material attraction is equal to spiritual attraction. The incarnate spirit is not willing to undergo hardships and renunciation for the sake of spiritual knowledge. In this sign though the individual accumulates wealth and position yet something is missing, the individual is not satisfied, as subconsciously the individual knows there is more to life. The individual here weighs the two sides of life, materialism and spiritualism. The geometric symbol is a set of two equal and horizontal parallel lines, the top line has a gap in the middle filled with a ¾ portion of a circle protruding upwards and joining the edges of the line. This symbol resembles the middle part of a weighing balance. The horizontal line suggests inertia, the top line with part of a circle protruding up in the middle suggests an inclination towards the spiritual – circle represents the Cosmos and totality – and the line then reverts back and runs parallel to the bottom line. This suggests some interest in spiritualism which reverts back to materialism after some consideration. Libra is a male, airy and movable sign. Libra is active as indicated by movable sign and is a positive sign as indicate by the element male. Air element indicates thinking ability and a psychological quality. Libra is owned by Venus indicating materiality, Saturn is exalted here indicating deep thinking and dissatisfaction and the Sun is debilitated here indicating dissipation of the spirit.
