Tullahoma Little League July 27, 2013 I would like to thank the volunteers and sponsors that made the Little League District 8 Tournament a huge success this year. Tullahoma Little League entered very competitive teams once again and we were able to collect a District Championship or Co-Champion banner in each of the tournament brackets. For the second year in a row we sent 4 teams on to the State Tournaments. This year we sent teams to Dandridge, Charlotte, Athens and Winchester, TN. I want to give a special thank you to our Cascade crew headed by Jimmy Bratcher, the coach pitch tournament volunteers were Ryan Brewer, Nat Bobo, Vicky Tomlin, Sherri Damron and Garry and Tammie Kidd. There were lots of exciting games with some great play from the little guys and the police only had to show up one time, luckily it was two visiting teams getting too excited. On the Waggoner side of town we had our player pitch teams. Mickey Miller took care of the Field Marshall responsibilities at Field 1 and made the umpires feel right at home waiting on them hand and foot. Jeremy Damron helped me out with Field 2 and I can just say that the service was not as good as Field 1 but we kept the dugouts full of water for the players. A special thanks to my wife Kelly who helped out every day with food for the umpire tents at both locations. Thank you if you allowed us to borrow your personal items like tents, coolers and chairs. Without these items we could not have made the tournament go off without an issue. We had several people to help out and make calls to get donations from our great sponsors here in Tullahoma. The district sponsor list includes the following outstanding companies with the kids foremost in their minds when they consider donating to our league; Chick-Fil-A, Subway, Papa John’s Pizza, Kroger, Mid-South Distributing, L&H Distributing, Prescott Bottling & Distributing, Food Lion, Walmart and Walgreens. The concession stands were very successful, thanks to the hard work put in by the parents of the West Middle School Girls Basketball team. The district tournament is a good opportunity to raise money for an organization, it just requires people to organize the shifts and stock the merchandise. Thank you Kevin McCreary for making sure we had some happy spectators in the stands by organizing and running a well stocked concession stand. And I could not finish without thanking Tom Foster and the rest of the Parks and Rec guys that made the fields look great every day. The district games went on and on for almost a week longer than scheduled because of all the rain we received. There were a couple of days that I did not think that we would get the games in but we did. Thank you to Ian Anderson and Kurt Glick for making your men available to work the Little League District Tournament. Once again Tullahoma was able to show off our outstanding baseball fields to the surrounding leagues. I’ve played in many different cities and we have some of the best fields in the state.
