Currently there are about 2000 hydroelectric power plant projects all over Turkey, constructed or waiting for approval. Turkish government is renting the water sources to private companies for 49 years, and only in a few years, the constructed plants result in destroying the natural environment and local economies depending on it. Government and company representatives usually organize meetings with locals to convince them by offering short-term construction jobs. If the struggle continues, government doesnt refrain from using violence against locals.
