Turkey is a cheap place to live in and it attracts many Westerners. Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkish State) provides information to organize and analyze data about Turkey. But how much more expensive (or cheaper) it is to live in different places in Turkey? The Turkish Government data below gives us an idea of the regional cost of living in Turkey. The data not only on the cost of housing, but also covers the cost of a typical household, including lodging, food, clothing, transportation, health and education, etc. Not surprisingly, Istanbul is the most expensive in the country. The region includes Mardin, Batman, Sirnak and Siirt is the cheapest, with a 20 percent difference between the two. They calculate the following table, based on 100 = Turkey average. For training, there was a huge difference between the highest and lowest costs: Istanbul has the highest cost (166.1), while in Malatya is Elazig, Bingol and Tunceli is the cheapest (69). Although the difference in housing costs is huge: Istanbul has the highest (148.5). Mardin, Batman, Sirnak and Siirt is the cheapest (72.2). Istanbul was not the most expensive on the transport but it is Ankara (106.3). Mardin, Batman, Sirnak and Siirt again cheapest (91.4). Ankara has the highest costs for furniture (109.4), while Gaziantep, Adiyaman and Kilis is cheapest (95.1). Ankara is also listed in the top for health-related expenses (117), while Kastamonu, Sinop is Çankiri is (87.5). Clothes and shoes are the most expensive in Trabzon, Ordu, Giresun, Rize and Artvin (107.4), and the cheapest is Zonguldak, Izmir and Bartin (86.4).
